After attending the Kansas City Fashion Week (KCFW) runway shows this past February, I could only think about one thing, why had I never attended before?! It was one of the coolest events I’d ever been to in my life! It was a night that I will never forget and will always be a favorite memory of mine! I’m going to share with you what it was like to attend the shows and give you some ideas for making the most of your night out!
First off, the KCFW runway shows would be PERFECT for a girls night out!! Next year, I want to rent a limo with all my friends and go downtown for drinks and dinner before the show!
It would also be a wonderful date night for those of you that have a metro significant other like myself!
I sat next to a mom and her 9 year old daughter (wearing coordinating outfits) that had the best mother-daughter night out! I would suggest bringing kids age 8 or older! I’m definitely taking Somer Jane when she gets a little bit older!!
I LOVED that everyone got to enter the show on the red carpet!!! It made me feel like Cinderella or Kim K🤣💯! Lots of photographers (aka paparazzi) took each person’s photo which was so cool! To top it off, the location was magical! It was held at The Grand Hall at Power and Light. This venue was absolutely breathtaking!!This was just the start to such a special evening!
After walking the red carpet, I got a drink (note: there are no snacks for sale so eat before entering), chatted with some friends, bought a KCFW shirt and magazine, and found my seat!
The show started promptly at 7, so I was glad I arrived 30 minutes early! I watched 3 designer runway shows before intermission and then watched 3 more after! The seats were soooo close to the catwalk which made the event feel very intimidate and exciting!
What to wear???
ANYTHING YOU WANT!!! When I asked the director what to wear, he told me to wear whatever fashion that best represented me whether it be casual or not! I realized that I could be as casual, funky, eclectic, dressy, formal, boring, or vibrant as I wanted to be! No dress code is right up my alley!!! I think I will always choose an outfit that I don’t get to wear very often so that I get use out of it! I’ll show all of the options I thought about wearing below! Ultimately, I went with the blue blazer outfit because matching blazer sets were my favorite current trend and I knew I would not have any where else to wear it!
Lastly, if you’re like me, you may feel intimidated by an event like this or worried about what on trend outfit to wear, but after attending I realized I had nothing to be intimidated by, only a really fun, memorable night to be had! I saw lots of outfits ranging from fashion-forward to completely low key! With that being said, I highly recommend going to a KCFW runway show! You won’t regret it!
